Current requirements techniques oﬀer a variety of structures for organizing the requirements, such as (structured) natural languages, use cases, viewpoints, goal models, features, etc. [24, 29]. No matter how the requirements are structured, an early aspect crosscuts the dominant decomposition, and has an (implicit or explicit) impact on more than one requirements artifact.
As mentioned before, the goal of the tool is to support and not to replace the requirements engineer. In addition, doing a manual analysis does not necessarily guarantee completeness (and is obviously not scalable in terms of time) with respect to concepts identification as the user can skip requirements and simply ignore important concepts due to lack of attention (see for example the next case study in Sect. 2 where developers missed relevant concerns). 2 Toll System Industrial Case Study at Siemens The case study described in this section is related to a family of toll systems.
More specifically they wanted to check if our approach could help them find relevant concerns that they hadn’t already thought about that could impact their existing architecture and implementation. Table 6 shows the concerns we identified using EA-Miner. The concerns are organised by type where base means the concerns that group requirements that are central to the functionalities of the system. The early aspects (functional and nonfunctional) constrain the base concerns by applying restrictions on requirements.
