Their place in the future atomic power engineer­ ing, prospects and problems of future sodium reactors of the nearest generation are discussed. 1. The basis of the atomic power engineering in the USSR of the first period will be thermal reactors. In this period it is assumed to obtain an industrial experience of the BN-350 and BN-600 fast reactors operation, to design a reference pro­ totype of a high-power fast reactor (~1500 Mff(e)) which in fu­ ture could be a serial one together with promising thermal reactors.
